Language hero Tajul Islam passes away

The last language hero of Cumilla, heroic Freedom Fighter Md Tajul Islam, died on early Sunday.

Tajul Islam hails from Shikarpur village under Bhuloinsouth union in Lalmai upazila of Cumilla. He was 90 at the time of his death.

Adviser of BNP Chairman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, former Member of Parliament of Comilla-10 constituency, and freedom fighter Mohammad Monirul Haque Chowdhury reminisced about him saying he was a language hero and a brave freedom fighter who risked his life to establish the Bengali language through his activism. He was a truthful and dedicated person.

The Chairman of the Comilla Education Board, Professor Dr Md Nijmul Karim, Secretary Professor Nur Mohammad, Examination Controller Dr Md Asaduzzaman, College Inspector Professor Md Zahiru Islam Patwari, Deputy Examination Controller (Secondary) Mohammad Shahidul Islam also expressed their condolences.

The Janaja prayer was held at 3:00pm in the playground of Hajot Khola High School, followed by another prayer at 5:00pm at his residence in Shikarpur, attended by Freedom Fighters and notable personalities. After the Janaja prayer, the language hero was buried in the family graveyard with a guard of honor.
