Laila Arjuman Banu, a professor of Chemistry department of Rajshahi University, has been relieved from the post of student advisor. Prof MA Bari, acting registrar of the university confirmed the matter on Sunday through issuing an office order. In the office order, it has been said that Prof Laila was fired from her post of student advisor for keeping convenience of the university.  The university proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman will take the additional charge as student advisor until given appointment of the post.

The order would be implemented immediately; it has been also said in the office order. However, many of people are criticizing taking the issue as the university administration fired professor Laila from the post on the International Women’s Day.  Earlier, Prof Laila filed a case against a teacher of Rajshahi University School and College with Motihar Police Station for allegedly harassing her daughter sexually.

Since then, a strained relationship had been going on between her and the university administration. While asking about the exemption, professor Laila, said the Bangladesh Post that the university vice chancellor professor M Abdus Sobhan asked her why she filed a writ with high court. But she did not file the writ. The university administration has compelled her for firing from the post; she said adding that a human rights activist filed the writ with the high court.  Professor Laila had taken her charge as student advisor on 1 October in 2018.
