Advocate Shahazadi Laila Arzuman Banu has recently come into focus in Bogura’s political arena as a strong aspirant for nomination to a reserved women’s seat in the Jatiya Sangsad.

With 31 years of political experience and an active grassroots presence, she is currently serving as acting president of the Bogura district unit of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, the women’s wing of the BNP.

Party leaders say Laila has been involved in politics since her student life and has gradually taken on organisational responsibilities at different levels. She has played a leading role in district-level women’s affairs and has remained active in central political activities.

During politically challenging times, she worked to keep party activists organised and participated in election-related programmes and social campaigns. Leaders at the grassroots level describe her as a dependable figure within the organisation.

As a practising lawyer, Laila is familiar with constitutional matters, women’s rights and local governance structures. Party sources say she provided legal assistance to many BNP leaders and activists during the previous government’s tenure.

She has also been involved in initiatives aimed at preventing violence against women, promoting education and raising social awareness in her locality.

Political analysts note that organisational experience, public acceptability and continuity of leadership are key considerations in nominating candidates for reserved seats. In that regard, Laila’s long-standing involvement in district politics has strengthened her position.

Speaking about her aspiration, she said effective and experienced representation in parliament is essential for ensuring women’s political empowerment and added that she is prepared to work to meet the expectations of the people of Bogura.

Party insiders said her political future will become clearer once the nomination process is finalised.
