Lack of awareness, feeding practices cause childhood malnutrition

Doctors and experts on nutrition said that lack of health conscious and poor feeding practices are the main reasons behind the childhood malnutrition. 

Lack of adequate knowledge about food values amid the people is leading to malnutrition among the children, they also said. 

They said these at a press conference at the District Civil Surgeon Office in Narail on Tuesday afternoon. The press conference was arranged on the occasion of National Nutrition Week-2019. 

Civil Surgeon of Narail Dr Md Asaduzzaman Munshi Tony addressed the press conference as the chief guest, while Narail sadar upazila health & family planning officer Dr Shamim Raza, health officials Md Forkan Ali and Md Yunus Ali and Narail Press Club president Advocate Alomgir Siddique among others spoke on the occasion.

Civil Surgeon said that most of the people even affluent section do not have adequate knowledge of food value. 

Many people do not have adequate knowledge about breastfeeding and complementary feeding which causes the childhood malnutrition. People should be educated on different health issues for improving nutritional status of children, he added. Narail district nutrition coronation committee launched week long programme marking the National Nutrition Week-2019. The programmes include rally, art competition, discussion, gathering of fathers and mothers.
