Labour rescued, ex-UP chairman arrested

Police rescued a labour from SMB brick klin at Baronal vill­age in Kalia upazila of Narail on Sun­day night, 49 days after being tortured. 

Police also arrested former chairman of Iliyachabad union parishad Monirul Islam Mollick, 44, in connection with labour torture.

The rescued person was identified as Salauddin Ghazi (27) resident of Kaira Bazar area in Kaira upazila under Khulna district.

ASP Ripon Chandra Sarkar of Kalia Circle confirmed the matter. 

Police sources said, the chairman and his men abducted Salahuddin from Muladi in Barisal on November 30 last year as they identified them RAB member, then abducted Salahuddin, and who was tortured by the chairman and his men at brick kiln and was tied with shackles. On secret information, a group of police led by ASP Ripon Chandra Sarkar rescued Salahuddin at around 8:30 pm on Sunday night and brought him to the police station. 

Police later arrested Manirul, the organizing secretary of the Kalia Upazila Awami League and 

former chairman of Iliyachabad Union, for alleged involvement in the incident. 

Kalia thana Officer Incharge (OC) Md. Rafiqul Islam told that a case was filed in this connection with Monirul Islam Mallick, along with 7 to 8. Police are trying to arrest the 

rest accused.
