A murder case has been filed against seven people, including Labaid Specialized Hospital’s managing director Dr A M Shamim, over the death of Tahsin Hossain, 17, a HSC student who died at the hospital due to alleged wrong treatment.

The other accused are- Sir Salimullah Medical College’s assistant professor and LabAid Specialized Hospital surgeon Dr. Md. Saifullah, assistant surgeon Dr. Maksud, Dr. Sabbir Ahmed, Dr. Musharraf, Dr. Kanak, and Branch Manager of Hospital Shah Jahan.

Tahsin’s father Monir Hossain filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chanda on Monday (June 26). The court, after recording the statement of the plaintiff, asked Dhanmandi Police Station to accept the matter as first information report.

Plaintiff's lawyer Tanveer Ahmed Sajeeb confirmed the matter.

According to the case document, the plaintiff took his son Tahsin, who was suffering from stomach ache recently, to Dr Saiffullah at Labaid Specialized Hospital on March 27. Acting on his suggestion, he admitted Tahsin to the hospital. He was operated on March 28 at the hospital.

However, Tahsin’s condition deteriorated rapidly after the surgery. Dr Saifullah operated on Tahsin second time on April 6, making his condition more frail. He was given 144 bags of blood in this time. On June 23, Tahsin died at the hospital.

“I had asked Dr Saifullah many times that what is the problem of my son. But he never could give me an appropriate answer. I am hundred percent sure that they killed my son through wrong treatment,” Tahsin's father Monir Hossain said.
