A project titled MELBU (More Entrepreneurial Life in Bangladeshi Universities) was inaugurated on Thursday by the European Commission's Erosmus Plus programme to encourage entrepreneurship among university level students in South-Western Bangladesh and to build the capacity of universities in the region to develop entrepreneurship.
The project was inaugurated through an online kickoff meeting. Khulna University (KU) Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Fayek Uzzaman inaugurated the programme.
The duration of the project, which is estimated to be around Tk 7.5 crore, is three years. KU is leading the Bangladesh part of the project and Leipzig University of Germany is leading the European part.
In his inaugural address, Professor Fayek highlighted the importance of developing new entrepreneurs and the need for a stronger role of the University in entrepreneurship development. The VC assured all possible support for the project on behalf of himself and the University.
The universities affiliated to the project are Leipzig University, Maritime University of Sttetin, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Northern University of Business and Technology and North Western University.
Twenty-five teachers from these universities involved in project management took part in the inaugural programme through online.
The activities includes – To provide tailored training modules in the Bangladeshi universities for students entrepreneurship, support centers for universities students, regional start-up to encourage and support a Crowd sourcing Platform.
Under the project, two summer schools will be organised in Khulna and Leipzig, Germany where a selected number of students from each participating university will participate. In addition, a regional innovation plan competition will be prepared under this project.
