Korean investment sought in potential industries

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday urged South Korean investors to invest directly in the potential industries in Bangladesh, including the rapidly growing leather industry.

The minister also urged them to increase their investment in the small and medium level industries of Bangladesh by utilising the government's favourable policy supports. 

The minister made the call when the South Korean Ambassador to Dhaka, Hu Kang-El, made a courtesy call at his ministry on Wednesday. Nurul Majid said, Bangladesh maintains a friendly relationship with Korea since a long period of time, and the contribution of the country to the path of economic development of Bangladesh is remarkable.

"Both the countries can be benefitted by continuing the existing relations and further strengthening the flow of qualitative industrialization", the minister added. Industries Secretary, Md. Abdul Halim, Joint Secretary, Yeasmin Sultana, senior officials of the ministry and Korean Embassy were present at the meeting.

The meeting discussed bilateral issues of interest and of Korean investment in industry sector of  Bangladesh, industrial technology transfer and the upcoming visit of South Korean Prime Minister to Dhaka.

While addressing, South Korean Ambassador praised the recent economic progress, industrialization in Bangladesh.

He said although once the per capita income in South Korea was less than that of Bangladesh, the economy of his country has reached today's position because of industrialization, innovation and hard work of the people.

Praising the role of hard working people of Bangladesh, he hoped that the country will reach the expected destination of self-reliance shortly through planned industrialization.

He assured that the investment of South Korea will continue in the rising industry sector of Bangladesh.

He informed the Industries Minister about the programme schedule of the visit of the South Korean Prime Minister to Bangladesh.
