The President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Chang Won Sam has wrapped up a high-level three-day official visit to Bangladesh, marking a significant step forward in the long-standing development cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Bangladesh.
A central feature of the visit was his meeting with the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, where both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding development cooperation across priority sectors. Discussions focused on Korea’s continued support for Bangladesh’s development ambitions, with emphasis on public sector modernisation, digital transformation, human capital development, and climate-resilient growth.
Chang reiterated KOICA’s dedication to advancing this partnership through long-term, sustainable, and people-centred initiatives.
During his visit, the KOICA President toured the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), where he was received by the Chief Engineer. He reviewed ongoing KOICA–RHD collaborations designed to enhance highway safety, improve traffic management, and strengthen bridge maintenance through advanced digital tools. After detailed presentations by project teams, Chang visited the Traffic Management Center and symbolically handed over vehicles meant to support enhanced operational efficiency. The gesture underscored KOICA’s broader commitment to helping Bangladesh build a modern, reliable, and technology-driven road transport system.
In the health sector, the KOICA President visited the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER), one of KOICA’s flagship development investments in Bangladesh.
He commended NIANER’s ongoing role in strengthening the country’s nursing workforce and conveyed KOICA’s full support for establishing Bangladesh’s first-ever PhD programme in Nursing. He noted that creating advanced pathways for nursing education would strengthen the health system, expand research capacity, and cultivate the next generation of skilled faculty and nursing leaders.
Chang acknowledged the contributions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM), and NIANER leadership in ensuring the institute’s sustained impact and academic excellence.
Chang also held discussions with the Secretary and senior officials of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) to review ongoing development cooperation initiatives and outline future strategic priorities. Both sides reaffirmed their shared vision for transparent, results-oriented, and mutually beneficial development collaboration aligned with Bangladesh’s national goals and evolving needs.
Throughout the visit, the KOICA President underscored Korea’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in building resilient public institutions, strengthening human resources, and driving inclusive and sustainable growth. His engagements highlighted the depth of the Korea–Bangladesh partnership—rooted in decades of trust, shared values, and a collective vision for long-term development.
