KOICA establishes lab for developing skilled manpower

The South Korea’s development arm, KOICA, has established a lab in Bangladesh to develop skilled manpower. With the support of the Korean electronics giant, LG Electronics, they opened the ‘LG Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC) Inverter Lab at Bangladesh – Korea Technical Training Center (BKTTC)’ in Chattogram.

The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment is also supporting the initiartive, KOICA said in a statement.

Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Imran Ahmed inaugurated the lab on Saturday, while KOICA Country Director Joe Hyun-Gue, and Managing Director of LG Electronics Dong Kon Son were present as special guests at the ceremony. Dr. Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment, present in the opening ceremony.

Since 2018, KOICA in collaboration with LG Electronics and BMET has been implementing the project to develop market demand-driven Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) course of BMET in Bangladesh to improve capacity of its trainers and employability of its trainees.  Under this collaboration, LG Electronics has established a LG RAC Inverter Classroom, supplied and installed the relevant equipment, organised and provided training to the trainers at LG Asia Service Center in Singapore and provided internship and employment opportunity to trainees.

The minister expressed his gratitude to the Korea government and LG Electronics for their kind support to open this new horizon in demand driven skill development in Bangladesh. 

The KOICA Country Director said they are “working together with competent private sectors in Bangladesh to maximize skilled human resources to meet the demand of both local and overseas job markets”. 

He also hoped that the certificates that graduates will obtain from this partnership will be internationally recognized and help get mid-level jobs.
