Kishoreganj municipal area is plagued by various problems including occupancy of rivers, unplanned urbanization and construction of houses, lightless lampposts, unpaved dilapidated roads, spread of drugs, small market in residential areas, waterlogging, effects of sewage and toxic liquid waste etc for some time now.

The residents of Kishoreganj municipal area are also suffering from substandard clinics, hospitals, diagnostics, noise pollution, lack of necessary drains and dustbins, lack of children's parks and playgrounds, nuisance of scoundrels, lack of car parking, lack of stage for development of art, literature and culture and lack of necessary initiatives to control mosquitoes in the area.  However, the mayor of Kishoreganj municipality said that he is working to solve these visible problems very soon with the aim of bringing ease into the lives of local residents.

Kishoreganj municipality is one of the oldest municipalities in the country. This municipality, which was established on April 1, 1869, has not yet received a touch of modernized development. It goes without saying that the facilities that the citizens are supposed to get as a resident of an 'A' class municipality are not available here.

At present, more than 3 lakh people are living under Kishoreganj municipal area. However, the municipal authorities believe that, of them the number of non-citizens will exceed one lakh. The municipality also has to deal with various pressures of the daily needs of the additional population along with the original residents of the municipal area.

The Narsunda river flowing through the municipal area was once a pretty mighty river. Many used to make a living by boating on this rive while, many others used to hunt various species of fish there.

However, all of that is now in the past. The river is now a source of foul-smelling toxic liquid waste.
