Bashundhara Kings are just three points left to set a record in the domestic football history of Bangladesh when the reigning champions are on top of the points table after completing their 19th round.
The sensation in the Bangladesh football, Bashundhara Kings have already emerged champions in the country’s top tire football competition twice in a row after their first time footsteps in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Now, Kings need full three points from as many matches to earn the feat of becoming hat-trick champions, any of the teams could ever achieve at their first entrance in the highest level league of the country.
Bashundhara, at their first appearance in the domestic soccer in 2017-18 and 2018-19 season won the league league trophy just outshining the country’s traditional giants and the big names, who have been dominating.
Bashundhara, following their two league trophies win in a row in could make it three in the 2019-20 but the season was abandoned due to Covid-19.
However, might be they had to wait for a season but this time they are very much closer to make their dream comes true, if they would win one match or draw all three matches, will celebrate the championship for third time at a stretch .
When Bashundhara Kings left three rounds (three matches) and are already leading the points table, their closest contenders Abahani Limited have four matches to play but they are 10 points behind.
Bashundhara Kings amassed 48 points from 19 games when the six times champions Agbayani accumulated 38 points from 18 encounters.
At this stage, there is only option for an upset of Kings’ skidding when the equation will also be hard, as if they will fail to obtain three points from three matches and Agbayani will be able to earn 12 or 10 points.
Though Bashundhara will face tough challenges in their rest of the matches when they struggled against them in the first leg to survive with a 4-3 win against Saif Sporting Club, shared points with Abahani Limited and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 2-2 and 3-3 respectively.
All but, it is hard to believe and also seemingly not possible that Kings will suffer defeat in their all three matches when it is not impossible for Abahani to win their all four matches.
Abahani in the first leg shared points with three opponents out of the four they will play. Among the four opponents might be Shadhinota Krira Sangha and the Uttar Baridhara are weaker opponents but it would be tough challenges when they will face heavyweights Bashundhara Kings and Sheikh Jamal.
Abahani in the first leg drew against the lowly Shadhinota KS by 1-1, shared points with Bashundhara Kings by 2-2, against Jamal by 0-0 and won against Baridhara by 5-2.
Meanwhile, the league will resume from July 14 after the Eid vacation from today with four matches will take place in different venues on the day when Abahani Limited will take on Shadhinota KS at Sylhet Stadium, at their home ground.
