Holders Bashundhara Kings kept their winning streak with a comfortable win over Fortis FC, Abahani Limited escaped with a solitary goal win against Sheikh jamal Dhanmondi Club when the Federation Cup champions Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) sank Brothers Union (BU) by 5-1 in the Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football on Friday.
But in the day’s other match Chittagong Abahani Limited were forced to share points with Rahmatganj MFS after a 1-1 draw in the day’s other match at the Bir Sreshtha Ft. Lt. Matiur Rahman Stadium Munshiganj.
On the weekend, four matches of the BPL took placed at different venues across the country.
Bashundhara Kings, who managed their winning run in three matches at a stretch, struggled a bit to earn a 3-1 win against the Fortis FC at their home ground Kings Arena.
Though, all three goals of the match were scored by Kings players, but the Fortis played very attacking game against the giants when they threatened very often and also went closer to score goals.
However, Kings took the early lead in the ninth minute with Rakib Hossain scoring a beautiful goal. Rakib, the national team’s forward after having the ball possession some five meters away from the penalty-arch, was very intelligent to shot the ball over the keeper just top of the corner of the net (1-0). Four minutes later, Kings stopper-back Taiq Kazi trying to clear a ball sent it into own post (1-1).
But the reigning champions restored the lead on 21st minute through Dorielton, when the Brazilian forward scored his fifth goal in three outing to lead Kings 2-1.
Rest of the time Kings saw some strong counter-attack moves from the opponents Fortis, who stunned six times champions Abahani Limited with a 1-0 victory, as the hosts scored only second half goal on 77th minute with Rimon Hossain found the net after receiving a pass from the captain Robson Robinho (3-1).
At Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium, Gopalganj, the highest six times winners of the league trophy 10-man Abahani Limited faced huge challenges to manage 1-0 win against their Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Striker from the Island St. Vincent Cornelius Ezekiel Stewart salvaged the Abahani scoring on two minutes before the final whistle (1-0).
It was their first win for Abahani to collect four points from three outings. Sheikh Jamal DC collected three points from as many matches.
At the Muktijoddah Sriti Stadium, Rajshahi, Mohammedan’s captain Soleymane Diabate and Emaanuel strike twice each to down Brothers Union by 5-1.
On completion of the third round match, MSC earned seven points from two wins and a draw.
Striker Souleymane Diabate opened the scoring on 28th minute with converting a penalty to elad the first half by 1-0.
After the interval, the Black and White doubled the advantage on 48th minutes. This time Uzbek midfielder Muzaffar Muzaffarov netted a Diabate pass (2-0).
Nigerian striker Sunday Emmanuel made the tally 3-0 with netting his first one on 60th minute assisted by midfielder Manik Molla.
The Nigerian forward struck his second and teams fourth on 66th minutes just two minutes later Diabate netted the fifth and his second to close the score-sheet on 68th minute.
Akmol Hossain Noyon of Brother scored the lone goal on 78th minutes to reduce the margin (1-5).
The old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj MFS and Chittagong Abahani shared the point with 1-1 draw. The Port City giants took the lead at 34th minutes with defender Mohamed Yasin Khan scoring the goal but RMFS equalized the margin on 55th minutes through Ghanaian forward Samuel Menash Konney.
