The defending champions, Bashundhara Kings, maintained their winning streak in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football as they outplayed six-time champions Dhaka Abahani Krira Chakra Limited by 2-0 at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium, Gopalganj, on Friday.

It is the fifth consecutive victory for the Kings after their flying start by crushing Brothers Union Club by 5-2. This is the second defeat at their home venue for Abahani Limited after their upsetting 0-1 defeat to Fortis FC in the second outing at Muktijoddha Smrity Stadium, Rajshahi, on December 30, 2023.

Visitors Kings secured 15 points from five matches, while Abahani managed seven points from the five matches.

Kings took the lead in the 26th minute, with Brazilian striker Robinho scoring a bicycle kick.

Doreilton initiated with a right-side flank kick, which found midfielder Miguel inside the area. Meguel headed it just from the touch line, and Robinho just sent it with a spectacular over-head shot into the net (1-0).

The Kings then produced some good chances to increase the margin in the first half, but forwards could not convert any of the opportunities that came their way.

Dorielton Gomes, who scored seven goals in four matches, hit the crossbar just before the final whistle of the opening 45 minutes.

After the interval, the Kings became more aggressive against the Dhanmondi outfit. The Kings doubled their score in the 72nd minute through Miguel Figueira.

This is the first goal of the Brazilian midfielder in the season.

In their last meeting in the BPL, the Kings won 1-0 at Bashundhara Kings Arena last season. Dorielton scored the Bashundhara Kings' only goal in the 21st minute.

Kings are still unbeaten in their last nine encounters against Abahani Limited in the Premier League.

Abahani haven’t won their last ten matches in a row against the Bashundhara Kings.
