Bashundhara Kings came from a goal down to make it a winning start the season defeating Mohammedan Sporting Club by 3-1 in the Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup.
Held at the Kings Arena, Mohammedan took an early lead through Solimayna Diabate but Bashundhara Kings bounced back strongly in the second half with Tapu Barman, Meguel Damasceno and Faisal Ahmed Fahim scored a piece to snatch the victory on Friday.
The high voltage opening match of the season was onset with evenly sharing the possession but Mohammedan had better domination when they made the breakthrough early in the seventh minute.
Bashundhara Kings had fallen behind to Soleymane Diabate's early opener and were trailing by 0-1 up to 73rd minute of the game.
But the Kings were the real winners as after levelling the margin on 73rd minute and then Fahim and Tapu Barman added one goal each.
Even so, Kings would be happier with full three point after showing impressive resolve scoring twice come from behind against a fellow title contender, Mohammedan, who are the defnding Federation Champions.
Kings left to lick their wounds of their defeat at the hands of Mohamemdan in the Federation Cup final last year.
They were already without their last four season’s top performers Brazilian Robson, suffered defeats and elimination from the first round of the AFC Cup, Miguel Damasceno served well when he scored one and assisted twice.
However, Soleymane Diabate scored the season’s first goal to led Mohammedan with a an excellent header on a left side cross from Sunday on seven minute (1-0).
After taking the lead the Black and White kept their domination but could not increase tally and though Kings were also fabricated some counter attacks.
The match interrupted for more than ten minutes and extra 18 minutes were given after 90 minutes.
In the second half the scenario appeared almost reverse when Kings took the domination and played almost with full control keeping Mohammedan under pressure and levelled the margin on 73rd minute with Tapu Barman superbly touching on a Damasceno’s right side corner (1-1).
Faisal Ahmed Fahim led Kings, when the national team’s forward volleyed home with a twinkle of an eye with his left foot volley on a Damasceno cross (2-1). Kings, keeping their domination, sealed the victory with Damasceno beating three of his markers inside the box before mark the target on eighth minute of 18th minute added time (3-1).
