Kindergarten students in Gurudaspur protest discrimination in pry scholarship exams

A human chain and memorandum submission programme were held in Gurudaspur, Natore, protesting the recent decision to bar students of private kindergartens and independent primary schools from participating in the Grade 5 Primary Scholarship Examinations.

The event took place on Monday in the Upazila Parishad premises, organised by the “Gurudaspur Upazila Kindergarten Education Family”. Teachers, students, and guardians from 31 private institutions participated.

Speakers stated, “Such a decision midway through the academic year is disheartening for young learners. Although kindergartens lack government recognition, they have long provided quality education, often surpassing government schools in performance.” Among the speakers were Maulana Jamil Ahmad of Noor Academy, Md. Yakub Ali of Yakub Ali Model School, Md. Ekramul Haque of Millennium School, Masud Reza of Master Academy, Nasir Uddin Nayan of Rising Sun School, and Zahurul Molla of Gyaner Alo Academy.

Parents expressed concern, saying, “We enrol our children in kindergartens for better prospects. If they’re barred from scholarships, the government must first improve public school standards.”

A memorandum addressed to the Chief Adviser was submitted to the UNO Fahmida Afroze and Upazila Primary Education Officer, demanding reversal of the 17 July 2025 directive.
