Students of Government Gournadi Pilot Secondary School and local people of Gournadi upazila have launched a protest seeking justice over the murder of two cousins who were students of the school.
They formed a human chain on Dhaka-Barishal Highway at Gournadi in Barishal on Monday (June 14) demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of killers.
The students along with the local people also brought out a procession and shouted slogans demanding justice to their two fellows. The procession ended in front of Gournadi Press Club after parading roads in the upazila town.
The two cousins are Nazmul Hasan, son of Nesar Mollah, and Rayhan, son of Md Ratan. They were meritorious students of Government Gournadi Pilot Secondary School.
The bodies of the two cousins were recovered from a jute field at Hirulia village under Bhakurta union in Savar, on outskirts of the capital, on June 11.
Family sources said that Nazmul and Rayhan left home on June 9 to visit their aunt’s home in Savar and remained missing on June 10 evening after they came out of the home. Later on June 11 noon, their bodies were recovered from the jute field by police.
Speakers of the human chain said that the two cousins were killed brutally. They demanded proper investigation into the double-murder incident to identify the real culprits and ensure their punishment. Maternal uncle of Nazmul and Rayhan Md Delwar Hossain, BM Abul Bashar, the victims’ fellows Hafizur Rahman, Md Mehedi Hasan and Mushfik Rahman spoke at the programme, among others.
