A group of protesters on Saturday evening vandalised and set fire to the Jatiya Party (JaPa) office at Dakbangla intersection in Khulna.

The incident caused panic in the area, leading to nearby shops closing down.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna police station Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias said that a group of agitated individuals attacked the Jatiya Party’s office at about 6:00 pm. They threw bricks at the office, bringing out two plastic chairs from inside and setting them on fire.

Sajidul Islam Bappy, a leader of the anti-discrimination student movement in Khulna; said that a group of protesters vandalised the Jatiya Party office and set fires on the road as a form of protest.

However, he clarified that his organisation, the anti-discrimination student movement, was not involved in the incident.

According to locals, the protestors arrived in a procession at about 6:00 pm.

They passed through the Dakbangla intersection, breaking the signboard of the Khulna metropolitan and district office of the Jatiya Party.

They then entered the office, vandalizing chairs, tables, and other furniture, bringing some of the damaged items outside and setting them on fire.

Afterward, they left the scene, chanting slogans against Jatiya Party leaders.

This is the second instance of attack on Jatiya Party office in two days.
