Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon has invited agitating rickshaw-pullers at Nagar Bhaban for tea.

The mayor invited them at a training workshop held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Tuesday.

Khokon said “I invited them at Nagar Bhaban. We will hear their demand and will solve the problem through discussion”.

"We do not think that the city dwellers are facing much sufferings on three roads on which rickshaws are banned. Because, there are adequate vehicles for them on those roads. We will also free the footpaths for the city dwellers for their smooth movement" he added.

Among others, Prime Minister’s SDG Affairs Chief Coordinator Abul Kalam Azad and World Bank Regional Director John Roome, were also present.

Rickshaw-pullers are staging demonstration today for the second day protesting the rickshaw ban on three main key roads.

Earlier, the authority banned rickshaws on three key roads in Dhaka--Gabtali to Azimpur via Asad Gate, Science Lab Crossing to Shahbagh via Bata intersection and Kuril to Syedabad Bus Terminal through Badda, Rampura and Khilgaon.

Students and office-goers were the worst sufferers, as they got stuck in the gridlock.
