Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said public wrath exposed Begum Khaleda Zia to political fall and now BNP is a party drawing hatred from the mass people for destructive activities, reports BSS. “Such threat of mass movements to release Begum Zia is really a mockery. I want to urge BNP to adopt political programmes in the interest of the common people,” he said at a press conference at his secretariat office in the capital.

BNP had earlier made people hostage and killed them through arson attacks, Dr Hasan said, adding they (BNP) also made ill attempts to foil the polls as well as the voting rights of the common people. “So, Khelda has already suffered political fall due to public wrath,” the minister said. Urging BNP leaders to retrieve the people’s trust and faith, Dr Hasan said the world community knows that a peaceful political environment is prevailing in Bangladesh.

He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Sri Lanka, termed Bangladesh as an example of ‘economic growth’ for the country’s political stability. But the leaders of BNP didn’t see the peaceful environment, he said, adding, “No one is worried over their (BNP) threat for movement. He said the people of the country are living peacefully and the economic condition has improved. Bangladesh is now a role model before the world, he added. Replying to a question on the much-talked Priya Saha’s comments during an interaction with US President Donald Trump, Dr Hasan said her comments went against the interest of Bangladesh.

The world community knows about the situation of communal harmony in Bangladesh, he said, adding that the government might take actions against Priya.
“I think it would be investigated as there may be any conspiracy against the country’s communal harmony,” he said, adding that as a Bangladeshi national, she made “false, purposeful and treasonous remarks”. The minister said how she became a member of the delegation to the USA needs to be investigated.
