Khagrachhari farmers get training, farming materials from BINA

A farmer’s training titled "Introduction of BINA invented Aman rice varieties without for hilly areas and modern cultivation methods of paddy" was held and farming materials were distributed in Khagrachhari on Saturday.

It was organized at the training center of Khagrachhari BINA sub-center office as part of the BINA research strengthening program.

The Director General Mirza Mofazzal Hossain of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh took part in the programme through video conference  as the chief guest.

At the time, he said, the government is working to meet the needs of hill farmers. BINA 19 and 21 varieties of paddy have been invented in Khagrachhari. He hoped to expand the breed and technology in the future as well.

Munshi Rashid Ahmed, Chief Scientific Officer of Hill Agriculture Research Center and Mortuza Ali, Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Department were present on the occasion.

The speakers mentioned that there is a huge potential for Aman and BINA paddy in the hills and said that if these varieties of paddy are cultivated, the farmers of the area will benefit economically. At the same time the demand for nutritional value will be met.

65 farmers took part in the day-long training where they were introduced to BINA invented high yielding and short-lived Aman rice varieties, it's seed production and cultivation techniques, disease and pest management and exhibitions, seed processing and storage.

Later different types of fertilizers were distributed among the farmers.
