The newly formed Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given top priority to some key challenges that demand first attention during its fresh term in office.
As per the plan, the government will put priority on economy, education, agriculture and diplomacy, sources in the government say adding that their main target is to implement the election manifesto.
Besides, the government will launch a massive drive against corruption and arrest prices of essential commodities as people have already voiced concern on the issues.
After winning a landslide victory in the January 7 polls boycotted by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) , AL president Sheikh Hasina on Thursday took oath as Prime Minister for the fourth consecutive term and formed government for the fifth time aiming at building a corruption free Smart Bangladesh with non-stop progress.
Paying homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday pledged to continue advancement and prosperity of the country.
“Bangladesh's journey towards the socio-economic advancement will be continued,” she wrote while signing the visitors’ book kept on the National Memorial premises.
Over the challenges, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said that the new government would have to face political, diplomatic and economic challenges in days to come.
“In fact, the challenges are political, diplomatic and economic ones. These three challenges are ahead," he told reporters.
The BNP on Friday termed the new AL government as the ‘blackest artificial regime’ in Bangladesh with characteristics of one-party fascism.
So, besides running the state affairs, the government has to root out the ongoing conspiracies, propagandas and subversive activities of the BNP.
Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that he would work to further strengthen Bangladesh's relations with both eastern and western countries.
“We will move the country forward and brighten the country's image, improve relations with the East and the West," he said.
The minister said under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have taken the country on the path of progress by facing all the challenges.
“The main motto of our foreign policy is enmity with none but good relations with everyone and with that principle, we will develop closer relations with everyone,” he said.
Agriculture minister Abdus Shaheed wants to engage unemployed people in agriculture in an effort to change their fate.
“Country’s development will not be possible without the development of agriculture. I will encourage people in farming,” he said.
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury hinted that the government may bring about change in the new curriculum and evaluation system.
“Many are giving suggestions on the new curriculum. If necessary, changes will be made in the new curriculum and evaluation system,” he said.
