Some development projects including Metrorail, BRT, Elevated Expressway are in progress. Development activities should be carried out taking into account that people do not suffer. It should be properly managed through the coordination of the City Corporation and each department related to the project.
"When Metrorail, BRT starts, the roads under it, drains, branch roads, street lights, environment, all these must be properly managed. Sidewalks should be wide enough. If not, the passengers will not be able to move easily with their bags or belongings. Public space is very important at the landing station. These must be confirmed.”
Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said these things in the coordination meeting of the concerned departments regarding the ongoing development activities in the DNCC area at the conference room (6th floor) of Dhaka North City Corporation's head office, Nagar Bhavan, on Thursday at noon.
Addressing the representatives of various departments and projects present at the meeting, the DNCC Mayor said, 'Metrorail and BRT landing stations cannot be made on footpaths. The footpath will be fully open for traffic.'
He also said, 'If the ongoing projects are launched, there will be a revolutionary change in Dhaka's communication system. The economic zone that will be developed around the station should be properly planned and utilized for public use. The more connections we can make, the more people will finish work in Dhaka city and go back to their homes.'
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Salim Reza, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md Amirul Islam, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique, and MRT Lines 1, 5 and 6, Bus Route Transit and Dhaka Elevated were present in the meeting, among others. Expressway Project Director, Bangladesh Bridge Authority, DTCA and representatives of Traffic Department and senior officials of DNCC were present.
