Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen on Monday urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to keep eye on Bangabandhu’s fugitive killers, who have remained hiding in different countries across the world, reports BSS.

“Expatriate Bangladeshis should keep eye on some fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who have remained hiding in different countries . . . . Bangabandhu Foundation has already started “Signature Campaign” in the USA and Canada in this regard,” he said.

Speaking at a virtual discussion titled “Spirit of Victory Day and Today’s Bangladesh” organised by “Bangabandhu Foundation”, the foreign minister added: “They (expatriates) are collecting signatures and delivering all those documents to the respective governments in this regard.

Dr Momen said, “We want to make Bangladesh a ‘City of Peace’ in the world, as Bangabandhu always put emphasis on peace and the people of country also are always peace-loving.”

He said the incumbent government wants to highlight the fact globally that Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are one and same, according to release received Monday evening.

Mentioning that many branded Bangladesh as a poverty-stricken, cyclone-ridden, corrupt-practicing country, the foreign minister said Bangladesh is now a country of immense potentials, a role model for economic development, the first-ranking country in disaster preparedness and shining example of women empowerment.

The ‘Return on Investment’ in our country is much higher than all other neighbouring countries, the minister said, adding, “So both the parties (Bangladesh and foreigners) will get benefit with the investment here.

Terming the Padma Multipurpose Bridge as another big victory for Bangladesh, Momen said overcoming all the hurdles and conspiracies against this mega project, the present government, with deep determination of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is constructing the bridge with its own fund.

“At present, there is no alternative of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh. If we can follow the path outlined by her, we will surely be able to build a people-friendly, business-friendly, corruption-free Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal)”, the foreign minister added.

Sheikh family’s senior member Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Housing and Public Works Ministry’s senior secretary Shahidullah Khandaker, Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC)’s former chairman Kazi Reajul Haque, Bangabandhu Foundation’s executive president Advocate Mashiur Malek and its general secretary Advocate Nurul Islam Thandu, joined the discussion virtually.
