KCC to name roads, installations after freedom fighters

The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has taken decision for naming (christening) its 41 roads, buildings and historical installations after the names of 41Freedom Fighters (FF) in the city.

As part of making the government programmes for honouring the War of Liberation heroes a success, the KCC took the decision at its general meeting in the first week of this month.

A scrutiny committee has been formed at the meeting under the KCC rules to christen roads, buildings and historical installations after the names of the country’s golden sons like our Liberation War heroes, an official of the KCC said.

The scrutiny committee will collect information and database about the applicants from latest publication of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said chief executive officer (CEO) of the KCC Laskar Tazul Islam on Monday.

The scrutiny committee held a meeting on Sunday at the KCC’s JIZ auditorium with KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque as chief guest.

KCC Panel Mayor, Councilors, officials and commanders of the city and district units of Muktijoddha Command Council were present.

The committee has taken a decision for preparing sketch map of the proposed installations, buildings and roads for naming after the names of the golden sons of the soil, Laskar Tazul, also the president of scrutiny committee said.

Talking to BSS, Talukder Abdul Khaleque said that the present government are honouring the Liberation War heroes and implementing various projects for the welfare of the freedom fighters.“As part of the government programme, KCC has decided to honour our freedom fighters christening installations after their names,” he said.

“We have received 41 applications from the freedom fighters, we will christen installations after their names by completing necessary formalities,” he added.
