Sirajul Islam, the first mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), passed away due to old-age complications at his residence in Khulna city early this morning. He was 90.
Shafiqul Islam Sipar, elder son of the former mayor, said his father breathed his last around 4:45 am at their house on Haji Mohsin Road in the city. Sirajul's namaz-e-janaza will be held at Khulna’s Shaheed Hadis Park after Asr prayers, he said, adding that his father had been suffering from old-age complications for a long time.
The former mayor is survived by two sons, four daughters, and a host of well-wishers. His wife died earlier. Current KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque condoled the death of Sirajul Islam and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
