KCC election campaign begins in full swing

The electoral campaign for Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls is going in full swing after the distribution of election symbols among the mayor and councilors candidates on Friday. 

The numbers of total candidates are 179. Among them, four are contesting for the mayoral post, 136 aspirants are contesting for 31 ward councilor posts and 39 women are contesting for 10 women reserved councilor posts.

Besides, Khurshid Ahmed Tona and Z A Mahmud Don have already declared as the councilors for the ward no 13 and 24 respectively as no other candidates are contesting in both the wards, said returning Officer Md. Alauddin of KCC polls.

Meanwhile, all four mayors and councilor candidates began election campaign in full swing on Saturday defying heavy rain.

Awami League nominated mayor candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Saturday exchanged views with the members of Sonadanga Residential Welfare Society, Magura District Welfare Association and Swadhinata Journalists Association in the city. 

Khaleque, also president of city unit of AL and immediate past KCC mayor has said development works of Taka 1,400 crore is going on here. Khulna will look a green, clean and smart city after completion of development works within six months. He urged the voters to re-elect him by giving votes to his symbol ‘boat’ to complete his unfinished works. Jatiya Party backed candidate Shafiqul Islam Modhu exchanged views with voters at city’s Gallyamari and Sheikhpara areas while Islami Andolon Bangladesh candidate Moulana Abdul Awal in city’s Daulatpur area.

All the candidates distributed leaflets among city dwellers with a promise to be made city free from water logging.
