'Kazi Nazrul Islam's 47th death anniversary observed at CU'

National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam 47th death anniversary and the centenary of Dhumketu magazine, a seminar titled 'Dhumketu magazine's centenary: a look back' was held at the CU Business Administration faculty auditorium on Monday under the initiative of Chittagong University Nazrul Research Center.

Chittagong University (CU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shireen Akhtar was present as the chief guest in the seminar.  Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahbubul Haque, Dean of CU Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was present as a special guest.  Director of CU Nazrul Research Center Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Saeed presided over the meeting.  Professor of CU History Department Dr. Mohammad Anwarul Islam presented the main article in the seminar.  CU Bangla Department Professor Dr. Mohammad Mohibul Aziz and Dainik Azadi Associate Editor Rashed Rauf were present as discussants.

CU Vice-Chancellor said, Kazi Nazrul Islam was a poet of love, betrayal, equality, friendship and humanity.  Caste discrimination and discrimination had no place for him.  Although this great poet is known as a rebel poet in Bengali literature, he was also a poet, musician, novelist, storyteller, playwright, essayist, journalist, editor, filmmaker and singer.  Kazi Nazrul Islam, a believer in non-sectarian spirit, spread the message of rebellion by working for truth, beauty and justice through his newspaper ‘Dhumketu'.  'Joy Bangla' was the first sound in his mouth.  There is no branch of Bengali literature where this poet did not roam.  CU Vice-Chancellor called upon everyone, including the children of the generation, to pay more attention to the study and research of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

She said, "Nazrul's song-poetry-battle music gave encouragement and inspiration to the Bengali nation in our great liberation war".  This great poet will remain alive in the hearts of Bengalis for ages in the midst of his works.

At the beginning of the program, Nazrul Sangeet was performed by CU Assistant Professor of Music Department, Munmun Binte Jalil.  CU student Partha Pratim Mahajan moderated the program.
