The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday filed a case against former Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader and some former top officials of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority for misapplication and irregularities in Karnaphuli Tunnel project.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain said this at a press briefing in front of the head office of the Commission.
The other accused are former secretary and executive director of the Bridge Authority Khandaker Anwarul Islam, former chief engineer Kabir Ahmed, and former director and permanent member Ali Ullah Ahmed .
According to the ACC, they ignored the price determined by the negotiation committee and with recommendation of foreign experts arranged to include a service area, monitoring software, and a tag board in the project.
The government suffered a financial loss of over Tk 585 29 crore due to the inclusion.
They allegedly violated the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2006 by appointing individual consultants at a cost of more thanTk 585.29 crore.
