Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy said we know about various movements. Many movements succeed and some movements fail. But the social movement to protect the Karnaphuly should not be defeated. The river must be protected as it is vital for the country's environment and economy.
He came up with the assertion while speaking as the chief guest at the sampan procession of the social movement to protect Karnaphuli and sampan sailors on Thursday.
An exceptional sampan procession was held in Chattogram to save the Karnaphuli river. More than three hundred sampan sailors participated in this program with sampans. The protestors demanded the eviction of the illegal occupants on both sides of Karnaphuli.
The procession took place on the second day of the three-day program organized by Chattogram History and Culture Research Centre and Karnaphuli river Sampan Majhi Kalyan Samiti Federation to protect Karnaphuli. More than three hundred sampans of Ichanagar Sadarghat, Charpatharghata Abhaymitraghat, Sadarghat and Brijghat Sampans of the Sailors' Welfare Association participated in it.
CMP Commissioner said if this social movement to protect the environment of Karnaphuli and Chattogram metropolis fails, the whole nation will fail.
With that we will bring destruction to our next generation. Karnaphuli river must be protected to leave a habitable world for them. We are actively involved in the movement.
District Awami League (North) General Secretary Mofizur Rahman said I grew up seeing a clear and beautiful Karnaphuli river from my childhood. The country is developing but the Karnaphuli river is being destroyed due to the destructive behaviour of people. It cannot be allowed to happen. All must unite and strengthen the social movement to protect Karnaphuli.
The meeting was presided over by Karnaphuli River Sampan Majhi Kalyan Samiti Federation President SM Payar Ali. Firingi Bazar ward Councilor Hasan Murad Biplab, Chattogram History and Culture Research Centre Chairman Aliur Rahman were special guests in the procession.
