Filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon's ‘Neel Mukut’ is set to release today on the online streaming platform Chorki. The date marks the birthday of the filmmaker and the long-awaited release of his highly anticipated project makes it the more special.

Neel Mukutwas slated for release on March 26 last year, but had to be indefinitely postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The director said that the he was eager to release the film in theatres, however, due to the circumstances and the everchanging demographic of the cinema world, an OTT release was always a good option.

“I did want a theater release, however, formats in cinema change almost every 10 years. We see a new trend take its course and everyone has to adapt accordingly”, said the director in a recent interview.

The plot of the film remains a mystery and is said to be a ‘no story’ project. As unique as it may sound, Kamar gives a befitting response to why it is so.

“I was looking to do a project that has no story. A story is something that can be written or just read. What I wanted to portray was an audio-visual experience”, said the auteur.

He shared that he was on a flight to Europe for another project and heard a cry. He followed the cry and spent most of his flight writing some sequences about the cry.

“I had the chance to fall in love with the idea every now and then. Through the writing, the unplanned execution of the film and the visuals made me fall in love with it again and again”, he said.

He added that the delay did not worry him because the film was his and he did not mind keeping it for himself longer until it became the viewer’s.

The auteur’s debut film Shunte Ki Pao (“Are You Listening!”) received a National Film Award and several prestigious international awards including Du Reel’s Grand Prix and Mumbai International Film Festival’s Golden Conch.

Kamar originates from the old side of Dhaka and graduated in architecture from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) where he met his wife, Sara Afreen.

Neel Mukut is the result of the passion generated from the husband-wife duo and can be anticipated to be something special for the new age on Bangladeshi cinema.
