Kaligram women now making pickle from fallen mangoes

In the initiative of the Shah Krishi Tothyo Pathagar and Jadughar of Kaligram village under Manda upazila of Naogaon, rural women are encouraged and organized to make a variety of delicious mango pickle from the fallen green mangoes.

In response to this initiative, rural women in this village are now producing varieties of mango pickle delicious food items. Due to this food item, the fallen green mango is not being wasted. Shah Krishi Tothyo Pathagar and Jadughar of the district have already achieved fame for taking timely initiative for the development of agriculture and farmers.

Jahangir Alam Shah Chowdhury, the founder of this Pathagar, has encouraged rural women to create various types of mango pickles collecting fallen mango due to storms so that the mangos will not be wasted.  Being inspired, the women of Kaligram vollage, started preparing various kinds of mango pickle. He also made an arrangement to display those kind of pickles.

Housewife Mousumi Chattar, Halima Khatun and student Tania Khatun of the village said that they received training from this organisation how to prepare various kinds of pickles and dellicious food item from green mango like, Amer Sandesh, Mango Juice, Ama shata, Amchur, Amer Nababi and about 100 types of mango related food. This season, they have made these pickles in almost every house.

Jahangir Alam Shah founder of this library and member Josna Begum, got training in making these mango related fruits from Rajshahi Fruit Research Institute. Later, they conducted a training session for the rural women of Kaligram to make those food items.

Abdur Razzaq, 80, the oldest of the village, said he saw this rural festive to make mango pickle and preserve them, for the first time in his life. He never seen any such initiative before.

Jahangir Alam Shah, founder of Shah the Pathagar, said that due to taking this initiative, there is no place where you can see any fallen mango lying down in the area. The women collected those mango and use it to make vetious delicious food item.  He believes that this initiative will be turned into a commercialization.

Golam Faruk, Agriculture Officer of Manada Upazila said this is an exceptional initiative. As taking such initiative, the unused fallen mango are being used to make those food is limited to the family but on day the food was processed commercially, agriculture officer expected.
