Self-taught artist Owazuddin Mamun is portraying lived reality, stories, emotions and more at a solo show under way at Kalakendra on Iqbal Road in Mohammadpur.
The show ‘Secretive Works of an Outsider’ features a total of twenty mixed media abstract artworks.
The exhibition, organised by Kalakendra and curated by Wakilur Rahman, commenced on August 24.
Dean of Dhaka University’s fine arts faculty Nisar Hossain was present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition.
A displayed mixed media work on paper titled ‘Ki Bolbi Bol Ekti Kabita’ depicts a huge heart shape in the middle of the canvas comprised of rice grains with a box shape in the centre. Apart from this, huge eyes can be seen bordering the heart.
Besides, he has displayed artworks named ‘Prithibir Jonno Shwapno’, ‘Amar Shashuri Amma’, ‘Amar Jibon’, ‘Prio Boudi’, ‘16th July Katrina Kaif Er Jonmodin’, ‘Amar Shontaner Naamey Duiti Chitro’ and others.
Owazuddin never received any formal education on art. His works were brought to the Dhaka University’s fine arts faculty’s dean Nisar Hossain’s office by the artist Shahabuddin Sheikh. When asked where he found them, he replied that these were found in the dustbin of the institution. Later, they located Owazuddin and encouraged the artist for holding the exhibition.
