Kaitola Zamindar Bari decaying with time

The 100-year-old Zamindar Bari (feudal landlord’s palace) in Nabinagar upazila of Brahman baria is still a witness of ancient times.

However, due to lack of government supervision and negligence, this palace has now become a sanctuary for anti-social activities and drug addicts as it has turned into a deserted house.

It is said that a Zamindar named Bishwanath Roy Chowdhury hailed from Shimgaon of Kolkata under West Bengal of India set up the Zamindar Bari at Kaitola village of Nabinagar upazila.

But this Zamindar Bari is now on the verge of decaying.

The ancient tradition of Nabinagar is being lost in the possession of influential people due to improper maintenance of necessary conservation agencies.

In the wake of the demand for speedy renovation of this historic site, recently a team led by Dr Ataur Rahman, Regional Director of the Chittagong and Sylhet Division of the Department of Archeology had visited the Zamindar Bari under the instructions of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. After inspecting the Zamindar Bari he would send a full report to the ministry, said Dr Ataur Rahman.

In the meantime, the people of Kaitola South Union have demanded the local MP and the Prime Minister to rescue the Zamindar Bari from the hands of influential people and build a modern tourist center in this place.
