Even if you are not a K-pop (Korean pop) fan you still have definitely heard of them. I was introduced to BTS for the first time around 2014. The group’s name, BTS, stands for the Korean name Bangtan Sonyeondan literally meaning “Bulletproof Boy Scouts”.

The name signifies the group’s desire “to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim at adolescents like bullets”. In July 2017, BTS announced that their name would also stand for “Beyond the Scene” as part of its new brand identity.

This extended their name to mean “growing youth BTS who is going beyond the realities they are facing, and going forward.” Their debut song was “No more dream” on 12 June 2013. BTS fans are called Army. Their first single album was 2 Cool 4 Skool.

BTS has seven members. Kim Namjoon (RM) is the leader and main rapper of the group, and most likely a father figure to all the members. Kim seokjin (Jin) is the sub vocalist and visual.

Min Yoongi (Suga) is the lead rapper of the group. His recent song Daechitwa was a total hit. Jung Hoeseok (J-hope) is the main dancer, sub vocalist, and sub rapper.

He is the only hope for the group .Park Jimin (Jimin) is the main dancer and lead vocalist of the group. Kim Taehyung (v) is the lead dancer, sub vocalist, and visual also my ultimate bias.

Taehyung ranked 1st in the “Top 100 Most Handsome Faces of 2017”. JeonJeongguk (Jungkook) is the golden maknae (youngest) of the group. He joined BTS at the age of 17. He’s the Lead Dancer, Sub Rapper and Center. I really love his motto: “Living without passion is like being dead”.

Their most popular songs are: No More Dream, I Need U, We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2, Dope, Fire, Save Me, Not Today, Blood Sweat & Tears, Spring Day, DNA, I’m Fine, Fake Love, MIC Drop, IDOL, Boy With Luv (ft.Halsey), Make It Right, Black Swan, We are Bulletproof: the Eternal, ON (ft. Sia), etc.

You’ll find so many BTS ARMY’s around you if you look closely. There is a “BD K-Family - The 1st Bangladeshi K-Pop and Korean Culture Community” Facebook page who organizes all the huge K-Pop festivals in Bangladesh every year.

They do K-meets around May. Once, when I went there in 2017 I saw a 50+ year old man enjoying the whole festival more than anyone else. Most of the K-Pop fans went there with their families.

Comparing to the other country’s music videos BTS’ music videos are really admirable. By being a fan of BTS we are learning about a new culture and a whole new language.

BTS has won a total of 252 awards! They got 4 Billboard awards in 2017, 2018, and in 2019 for social artist (3 times) and duo/group (1st time).

They also performed in the Grammys 2020, appeared on the Ellen Show and the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Their music inspires and helps so many people out there in the world!
