Jute markets to be strictly monitored

The authorities concerned will strictly monitor the country’s jute market to ensure the necessary supply and price of raw jute in the domestic market. 

He also expressed his hope to boost the use and production of jute and jute goods.

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi made the remarks while addressing a meeting on raw jute market management, supervision and export of it at his secretariat office in the capital on Sunday.

The minister also said, “The jute harvesting season has been started this year. Raw jute has started coming to the local markets across the country. The production of raw jute in this season is also satisfactory. Jute farmers are getting good price of good quality jute as well.”

“The market for raw jute will always be monitored so that the price of raw jute should be stable,” the minister added.

“Effective measures would be taken to ensure supply of raw jute to continue the trend of export earnings of jute and jute products. To prevent unscrupulous traders from buying and selling raw jute and stockpiling it, the Jute Department has been directed to take necessary steps to ensure effective supply of raw jute in the market,” said the minister.

The ministry secretary Md. Abdul Mannan, additional secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam, secretary Sabina Yasmin, president of Bangladesh Jute Association (BJA) Sheikh Syed Ali, chairman of Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA) Md. Mahbubur Rahman Patwari, chairman of Bangladesh Jute Goods Exporters Association (BJGA) Md. Shafiqul Islam, and leaders of various associations and senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
