JUST teacher files dowry case against husband

Farzana Nasrin, an assistant professor at English department of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST), filed a case against three people, including her husband Masud Rana on Tuesday.

The case was filed under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act. District and Sessions Judge of Jashore Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal-1 TM Musa fixed September 29 for the order.

Earlier on September 14, Farzana Nasreen had filed a case against her husband for demanding dowry.

Masud Rana is the   son of Abdul Alim of Pabna Santhia Upazila Aftab Nagar village. He is a Magistrate in Nilphamari. The other two accused are Masud Rana's sister Rani Khatun and her husband Ziaur Rahman.

Farzana Nasrin claimed that during the marriage, her father gave various goods worth Tk 5 lakh and gold ornaments worth Tk 2 lakh to her son-in-law as dowry.

Magistrate husband Masud Rana demanded 10 lakh taka as dowry from Farzana Nasrin to buy a plot in the eastern part of Dhaka to the bad advice of Rani Khatun and her husband Ziaur Rahman.

She was tortured for not paying demand TK. 10 lakh. Farzana Nasreen filed a case against her husband in the court.

Masud Rana, along with his sister and brother-in-law, came to Farzana Nasrin's father's house in Palbari area of Jashore town on September 17 at noon to settle the case. But even after coming there, again they demand  dowry of TK.10 lakh to her family.

Masud Rana's wife Farzana Nasrin was beaten and injured during the argument. At that time local people came and rescued her.

After receiving treatment from the hospital, she went to the police station on September 20 and the police advised her to file a case in the court.

Farzana Nasreen had filed a case against her husband in the Jashore Judicial Magistrate's Court on September 23 alleging dowry.

The court has issued summons against Masud Rana.
