In a recent interview with Empire, director Colin Trevorrow revealed that there will be at least two new raptors in his upcoming movie ‘Jurassic World: Dominion: the Atrociraptor’ and the ‘Pyroraptor’. Set to release in June 2022, Jurassic World: Dominion will take place four years after ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ which ended with many dinosaurs being bought by international companies or escaping into the wild. Due to this, ‘Dominion’ will explore humans dealing with dinosaurs on the mainland, including several new species, including the Atrociraptor and Pyroraptor.
Initially, it may seem impossible for there to be new species of dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Dominion, given that so few were rescued from Isla Nublar. However, at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, one unknown group is shown with not only a dinosaur in their possession, but a briefcase full of dinosaur embryos. Although none of these embryos are labeled as the new raptors, there could easily be other suitcases with other species. With these, companies could grow new dinosaurs, hoping to use them for combat or protection. Inevitably though, these species would escape like those from Isla Nublar, only worsening the world’s dinosaur problem and causing them to spread faster.
Along with Trevorrow’s interview, Empire featured an exclusive image from Jurassic World: Dominion. It shows an Atrociraptor chasing Chris Pratt's Owen Grady as he attempts to escape on a motorcycle in Malta. This displays the danger that the new dinosaurs will pose, especially raptor species like the ‘Atrociraptors’ and ‘Pyroraptors’.
The first new species of raptor, which is the one shown chasing Owen, is the Atrociraptor. According to Trevorrow, Atrociraptors are fierce and clever hunters like Velociraptors, but they are less likely to use stealth. Instead, they use direct tactics for hunting, making them more vicious and brutal. - Collider
