The July Revolution and People's Uprising remains an indelible chapter in the history of Bangladesh, marked by the sacrifice of brave martyrs and the resilience of the masses in their pursuit of freedom, democracy, and human rights. To honour and preserve this historic legacy, the Bangladesh Bridge Authority has undertaken a special initiative to draw commemorative graffiti at the Mawa and Janjira ends of the Padma Bridge.
Guided by the overall direction of Mr Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Honourable Adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges in the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the mural-based graffiti seeks to merge the spirit of the July movement with the architectural grandeur of one of the country's largest infrastructure projects. The artwork symbolises the heroism, sacrifice, and democratic ideals of the July Revolution, transforming the Padma Bridge mural into a historical canvas. Beyond aesthetics, the graffiti aims to keep alive the legacy of past struggles for future generations.
On 7 August 2025, Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Mr Mohammad Abdur Rouf, visited the graffiti site to oversee the progress of the artwork. He was accompanied by Mr Altaf Hossain Sheikh, Director (Administration), Mr Kazi Mohammad Ferdaus, Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, and officials from both the authority and the Munshiganj district administration.
During the visit, the Secretary of the Bridges Division remarked, "The spirit of the July revolution and the sacrifice of the martyrs are the eternal wealth of the nation.
This graffiti work captures that glorious history through art, which is a unique combination of history and aesthetics."
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority hopes this initiative will resonate with the nation, inspiring art enthusiasts and citizens alike to reflect more deeply on the history of the country's liberation and democratic journey.
