Bangladesh Students' Federation, Narayanganj unit lit 'July Flame' as part of their month-long program honoring the martyrs in commemoration of the first anniversary of the student-people's uprising.
The event took place at Central Shaheed Minar at Chashara area in the town on Tuesday night.
During the program, women activists who participated in the July movement shared their recollections of the protests. Among those present were Tarikul Sujon, coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon (Mass Solidarity Movement), Narayanganj District, Anjan Das, Farhana Manik Muna, president of the Bangladesh Students' Federation, Narayanganj District Branch, along with Nasima Sarder, Munni Prottasha, and many others.
Farhana Manik Muna, president of the Bangladesh Students' Federation, Narayanganj District Branch, said, "On July 15, 2024, students at Dhaka University were brutally attacked and wounded with sharp weapons. Female students were also assaulted and hacked that day. That very night, we immediately brought out a torch procession from Narayanganj city. The fire from that torch spread to every home in Narayanganj and is still burning. We want to rekindle that torch fire as the 'July Flame'."
