A memorial meeting was organized by the Bhola district administration on Saturday to honor the injured and the family members of those who were killed during July-August mass uprising.
Bhola Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Azad Jahan presided over the meeting.
The DC said, we will always remember with respect the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the July-August uprising, through which we achieved a new Bangladesh free from inequality.
Assistant Commissioner Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan moderated the meeting. Bhola Superintendent of Police Md Shariful Haque, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Monirul Islam, District BNP Convenor Golam Nabi Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Md Zakir Hossain, BJP (Partha) president Md Amirul Islam Ratan, Islami Andolan president Maulana Md Tayyabur Rahman, central student coordinator Russel Mahmud, and martyr Fazlu's mother Saleha Khatun, along with injured individuals like Jobayer Yasmin attended the programme as special guest. The event began with a welcome speech by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Manzur Hossain, followed by recitations from the Holy Quran and the Gita. Attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of July. Families of the injured and deceased were welcomed with flowers when they arrived at Bhola district Shilpakala Academy.
The memorial, which held from 10:00am to 1:00pm, concluded with prayers for the salvation of the departed souls. Following the programme, the Bhola district administration provided financial assistance of Tk 5,000 to each of the 20 injured individuals and Tk 10,000 to each of the families of 46 martyrs.
