JU VC’s book on women’s work unveiled

Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Prof Farzana Islam’s book ‘Women’s Work, Gender and Kinship’, a book on the adaptation and lifetime struggle of women, was unveiled yesterday.

Former chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Nazrul Islam presided over the book launching ceremony that was held at the Kabi Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka.

Addressing the program, Prof Nazrul Islam said, “The researcher has unrolled the lifetime struggle of women as how she manages her family and this book will be especially helpful for women’s of slum. It describes the fact of a woman coming from the village to the city and became engage in new activities adapting to the new environment.”

Meanwhile, political scientist Dr. Nasim Akhtar Hossain, Anthropologist Mohammed Nasir Uddin, Sociologist Khandaker Sakhawat Ali and gender specialist Salma A. Shafi spoke on the program among others. The 326 pages book published by A H Development Publishing House.
