Two third-year students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) went on a hunger strike unto death on Sunday demanding completion of their pending examinations before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Nur Hossain, a student of Zoology department and Nayeem Sheikh, student of Geography and Environment department started the hunger strike at around 3.30pm in front of Registrar building while some 30 students supported them.

Nur Hossain said, “Our undergraduate degree is supposed to end in four years but we, the students of 46th batch under the 2016-17 academic session, are in third year for almost three years. We haven't finished our third year yet.”

“We have sent a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor's office demanding completion of our pending examinations. But almost one month later she refused our proposal,” he added.  “Students of other universities of same academic session have completed their final year exam. But we haven’t completed our 3rd year exams yet.  So we ask the authorities to take our 3rd year exams before Eid Ul Fitr,” said Nayeem Sheikh.

The students at the programme claimed that online classes of all academic sessions are going on except 2016-17. The authorities didn’t take any of their online class.

Earlier, the students under 2016-17 academic session formed a human chain on the campus premises and sent a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam seeking her attention in the matter.
