Jahangirnagar University is going to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary on January 12 in 2021. In this regard, a countdown ceremony was organised on the campus on Monday.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the countdown ceremony as the chief guest.
The countdown clock was set up on the central cafeteria premises of the university.
Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Nurul Alam, Pro- VC (Administration) Prof Dr Amir Hossain, registrar, president of provost committee, deans of various faculty were present at the programme, among others. The programme was conducted by the director of JU Teacher-Student Center (TSC) Professor Md. Alamgir Kabir.
Besides, former and current students, officers, employees, and well-wishers of the university also joined the countdown programme through a virtual programme.
It is mentionable that Jahangirnagar University was founded in 1970. It formally started its academic activities as a fully residential university on January 12 in 1971, with four departments, 21 teachers, 150 students, and three residential halls.
Currently, the university has 34 departments, 4 institutions, more than seven hundred teachers and more than14 thousand students.
