Agitating teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday besieged two administrative buildings of the university for the second consecutive day demanding resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam over allegation of her involvement with corruption. As a part of ongoing movement against VC, teachers and students of different departments took position in front of new and old administrative buildings under the banner of “Jahangirnagar Against Corruption” around 8.00 am and continued demonstration till 4.00 pm. Protesters said that they are no longer accepting Prof. Farzana Islam as Vice Chancellor accusing her involvement with financial scandal. Therefore, they will not allow the VC to do any administrative work. They blocked two administrative buildings so that VC cannot enter there to perform daily activities.

Spokesman of the movement Prof. Raihan Rayne of Philosophy department said, “Prof. Farzana Islam will not be able to participate in any other activities as vice chancellor. Now she is trying to cover up her corruption by blaming our movement as Shibir’s movement. It’s like as to ‘hide in a superficial way’. No one can stop our movement in conspiratorial way. We will continue this till VC’s removal.”

General Secretary of JU unit of Bangladesh Students Union Ariful Islam Anik said, “The blockade will continue throughout the day. After the siege, we will sit in meetings and inform the media about the next program."  However, allegations of involvement of Shibir with the movement is a conspiracy to stop us. But if we will get any member of our platform involved with the Shibir, we will not put him in the movement.  No agenda of the Shibir will be implemented from this movement.  If the university administration spreads false news against any person, we will take a stand against the university administration.
