The Junior Scholl Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations will not be held this year considering the overall coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.

However, Qawmi madrasas will be out of the restriction of the closure.

The government has extended the ongoing holidays of educational institutions in the country till October 3, according to a press release of Education Ministry.

Mohammad Abul Khair, public relations officer of the Ministry of Education, confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post on Thursday.

He said, “The ministry has taken the decision at an emergency online meeting considering the safety of the students amid the coronavirus pandemic.”

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni presided over the meeting while senior officials and chiefs of various departments and agencies under the ministry joined the meeting.

Education Minister said, “The Ministry of Education is making some necessary changes in the education system during Covid-19 situation.”

During the meeting, she instructed the teachers of secondary, higher secondary, madrasa and technical educational institutions to keep the students motivated through direct communication or using social media maintaining the hygiene rules amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy Minister for Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department Md Mahbub Hossain, Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Department Md Aminul Islam Khan and other officials of the Ministry and departments under the Ministry joined the meeting.

Meanwhile, The Ministry of primary and mass education has taken a decision to provide primary students an auto promotion to the next class.

Robindranath Roy, public relations officer of primary and mass education ministry, said that all primary schools will also remain closed till October 3.

On March 16, the government decided to keep all the educational institutions closed from March 17. The decision was taken to prevent the spread of deadly coronavirus. No formal classes have been held since that day.

Later, in several steps, the Education Ministry extended the holiday.

Educational activities of about four crore students from primary to tertiary level are being hampered due to coronavirus crisis.

According to the concerned sources, the education ministry is working on several ways to overcome the irreparable loss caused to the entire education system in the current academic year.

On March 29, the government introduced online education through Sangsad TV for secondary students so that students can make up the losses due to closure of the educational institutions.

Later, on April 7, the government also started TV education for primary students, and on April 19, for technical and madrassa students.
