JS watchdog recommends expediting development projects

The parliamentary standing committee on planning ministry on Sunday recommended the ministries concerned to expedite the ongoing various development projects. The parliamentary watchdog came up with this recommendation at its fourth meeting held yesterday at the Jatiya Sangsad building. Chairman of the committee Abul Kalam Azad presided over the meeting.

The meeting had an elaborate discussion about activities of the ministry, Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) and its sub-ordinate organizations. The meeting recommended monitoring and evaluating of the ongoing projects to finish those within the stipulated time. Other members of the committee Planning Minister M A Mannan, Major Rafiqul Islam (retd.) Bir Uttam, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Hafiz Ahmed Majumder, Rowshan Ara Mannan and Abida Anjum Mita attended the meeting.

The meeting formed a five-member committee led by Saber Hossain Chowdhury asking all concerned to implement various projects in a faster manner maintaining the quality and standard of works and strengthen monitoring in this regard. The meeting also discussed that the country witnessed massive development and progress during the last two terms of Awami League government due to continued, sincere and coordinated efforts of all concerned.

The committee members also said only combined efforts would expedite the country’s development. The meeting also recommended creating education opportunity for the underprivileged children living in different slums across the country.
