Jatiya Sangsad (JS) is going into session today which is likely to be the last session of the 11th parliament ahead of the next general election likely to be held in early January 2024.

The JS session is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm. Prior to the session, the business advisory committee of parliament will hold a meeting with Dr Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. The committee will set the duration and business of the session.

Earlier on October 5, President Mohammed Shahabuddin summoned the 25th session of the 11th parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per the Clause (1) of Article 72 of the constitution. The last session is likely to be brief, with three to four sittings, said sources at the parliament secretariat.

So, the current parliament is unlikely to go for any session after October 31. On September 14, the 24th session of the current Parliament was prorogued after nine sittings.

The 11th Parliament is going to fulfill its five-year term on January 29 in 2024 as it went into the first session on January 30 in 2019.

Meanwhile, the meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) will be held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today. The meeting will begin around 6:00pm with Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

ALPP secretary Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury requested all AL lawmakers to attend the meeting on time.

The latest political situation, next parliamentary election and election preparation are likely to be discussed, among other issues, in the meeting, sources at the AL said.
