Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources on Wednesday recommended planting coconut and palm trees in cyclone-prone areas across the country aiming to protect people from the lightning strike.
The recommendations came following the 26th meeting of the JS body held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital with committee chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair.
The committee discussed the progress of the Coastal Embankment Improvement project phase-1 (CEIP-1) in Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna and Patuakhali districts.
The committee members including water resources state minister Zaheed Farooque, deputy minister AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, M Afzal Hossain, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Nurun Nabi Chowdhury and AM Naimur Rahman were present at the meeting.
Besides, ministry senior secretary Kabir Bin Anwar and director general of
the water development board and officials concerned, among others, attended the meeting.
