JS body on Jute discusses ‘Textile Act, 2018’

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Jute and Textile Ministry on Sunday held an elaborate discussion on ‘Textile Act, 2018’ at its seventh meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban in the capital, reports BSS.
During the meeting, the committee recommended taking necessary steps to broad the activities and publicize the textile sector by celebrating ‘National Textile Day’ for the first time, said a release.
The committee also held a view-exchange meeting with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and other stakeholders for enacting the law.
The administrative orders have been issued from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for more than Taka nine crore for further research and producing environment-friendly ‘Golden Bags’ from Jute, proposed by Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) and funded by Climate Change Trust Fund, the meeting informed.
It was stated in the meeting that the activities are underway to produce one lakh pieces of jute bags daily.
The meeting also discussed overall development progress of different ventures including Sheikh Hasina Nakshi Polli, Sheikh Hasina Specialized Jute Mill in Jamalpur, Sheikh Hasina Tant Polli, Sheikh Hasina Sonali Aansh Bhaban, Sheikh Hasina Textile Engineering Colleges in Jamalpur and Madaripur districts and ‘Golden Bag’ and ‘Viscose’ projects.
With Committee Chairman Mirza Azam in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by committee members Jute and Textile Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Ranjit Kumar Roy,MP, Md Nazrul Islam Choudhury, MP, Shaheen Aktar, MP, Abdul Momin Mandal, MP, Khadijatul Anwar, MP, and Tamanna Nusrat Bubli, MP.
Jute and Textile Secretary, Chairman of Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation (BJMC), Director General of Jute and Textile directorate and concerned officials of the ministry and parliament were present.
